Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad, Pakistan (ISS)

The Institute of Strategic Studies is an autonomous, non-profit research organization devoted to the analyses of strategic issues affecting international peace and security. The Institute conducts regular seminars, conferences and public talks and publishes papers on regional and international security issues, with particular focus on Pakistan’s security concerns.

The Institute publishes:

  • a quarterly journal called ‘Strategic Studies’
  • a periodic monograph called ‘Islamabad papers’
  • situational papers providing brief analytical reviews of current issues and concerns
  • fortnightly updates or 'Area Briefs' on events covering South Asia, Asia Pacific, Afghanistan, the Russian federation, the Middle East, Persian Gulf and the United States

The full text of these publications can be downloaded from the Institute’s website, except for the latest issue of the quarterly journal. In addition to this, the website also features:

  • a public forum featuring comments on current international events and issues
  • reports of seminars, conferences and public talks organised by the Institute
  • comments on security issues relating to India and particularly, Kashmir
  • maps of the Line of Control between India and Pakistan
  • listing of job opportunities with the Institute
