IDASA Style Guide

Ensuring a professional and consistent writing style across an organisation

Inconsistencies, misspellings and misuse of words and expressions can give a bad impression of piece of written work. This may even result in the work not being viewed as being professionally and competently produced. This is why it is important for organisations producing written work and publications to ensure staff adhere to a style guide which will reflect the organisation’s policies and project a professional image. It is also helpful for writers whose first language is not English.

This style guide includes commonly misspelt words and grammatical errors, the names of members of parliament and the positions they hold, and the names of state members of the African Union. It has been developed specifically for IDASA staff, however much of this information is helpful to organisations who do not have their own style guide or are thinking of developing one.

This guide is a work in process and will up updated regularly.
