National agriculture policy recommendations

National agriculture policy recommendations

The Government of Zambia in coming up with the draft National Agriculture Policy (NAP) and its implementation plan is prepared to ensure that agriculture is positioned to drive growth and development in Zambia.
As such, The Platform for Social Protection Zambia (PSP Zambia) and the Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition Alliance (CSO-SUN) came together to provide analysis of the draft NAP in order to ensure that the policy is thoroughly integrated with Social Protection and Nutrition .

This paper describes the parallel discussion held in consultation with wider Civil Society Organisations on the contents of the draft NAP with a particular focus on Social Protection and Nutrition respectively.

If these recommendations, both from the Nutrition analysis and the Social Protection analysis are included it will help to domesticate international commitments, such as the “Malabo Declaration on Accelerated Agricultural
Growth and Transformation for Shared Prosperity and Improved Livelihoods” June 2014 which made commitment to enhancing investment finance in agriculture and outlined a commitment to improve Nutrition al status, and
in particular, the elimination of child under- Nutrition in Africa with a view to bringing down stunting to 10% and underweight to 5% by 2025 as well as effectively making useful linkages between Social Protection and Agriculture.
