Growing food insecurity in Africa has stimulated attention to genetic engineering, particularly regarding the potential benefits and risks of genetically modified crops. This publication draws on research on biotechnology and biosafety policy in three African countries: Kenya, South Africa and Uganda. Experts discuss the need for policies and platforms to build public confidence and scientific capacity of GM products in the region.
