Editorial policy

Eldis aims to disseminate qualitative, evidence-based research and policy documents, and to publicise the organisations or individuals producing such research.

Our editors locate content from a variety of sources including submissions from Eldis users. We consider each item on a case by case basis before adding it to our database.

The following are some of the criteria taken into account when selecting content for our website and other services:

  • We concentrate on information covering countries primarily in the southern hemisphere, but we will include items on other regions if the information could be applied to southern-based research or policy.
  • Documents linked to must be available online in full text (or substantially complete) and available free of charge to a public audience.
  • We prefer to be able to link documents to the organisation that produced them, and conversely to link organisations to their publications. This aids our users in being able to judge the quality and relevance of a particular document. We understand that authors' opinions do not always reflect the views of organisations they represent. Organisations can include NGOs, international, national or governmental organisations, academic bodies and private companies.

There are certain items that we will NOT accept for inclusion on our site including:

  • ephemeral items such as news stories
  • essays, dissertations, theses
  • items/companies that are advertising non-research related commercial goods
  • mission statements, or items that do not provide substantive researched information

What we do accept includes:

  • research reports, working papers, discussion papers, conference papers
  • statistics
  • case studies
  • policy briefings

If an item submitted to us is not appropriate, we will let the submitter know.

The views expressed in materials linked to from Eldis are
those of the authors, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Eldis, the Institute of Development Studies or our donors.
