Impact of war on Iraq
Humanitarian impacts of war in Iraq
Collection of documents forecasting the humanitarian consequences of the current war on Iraq.
Common to these are assertions that:
- as a result of 12 years of sanctions, the Iraqi population is far more vulnerable to war than it was before the last Gulf war
- war will likely cause the collapse of the oil-for-food programme on which 60% of Iraqis are dependent
- destruction or disablement of the civilian infrastructure will increase the death toll of the war through famine and poor sanitation
- the international community has failed to make adequate preparations to respond to the likely humanitarian catastrophe
