The India HIV/AIDS Alliance

The Indian branch of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance
The India HIV/AIDS Alliance was established in 1999 to expand and intensify the International HIV/AIDS Alliance’s global strategy of supporting community action to reduce the spread of HIV and mitigate the impact of AIDS. Since its inception, the Alliance has been committed to fostering and supporting the development of community-driven approaches to HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support and impact mitigation in India, with an emphasis on local leadership and responsibility.

The India HIV/AIDS Alliance currently provides programmatic, technical, strategic, organisational development and financial support to a country-wide network of over 60 NGOs through a national Secretariat based in Delhi and six linking organisations (or, Lead Partners) and state partner organisations in Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Punjab and Orissa States.

Areas of programming include:
  • home and community-based care and support programme
  • focused prevention programme
  • sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS integration programme
Through these programmes, the India HIV/AIDS Alliance and its partner NGOs are reaching out to people living with HIV/AIDS, children living with and/or affected by HIV, sex workers, injecting drug users and, men who have sex with men.
