Malawi social cash transfer pilot scheme
This website represents the social cash transfer pilot scheme established by the Government of Malawi in Mchinji District in 2006. The pilot scheme has since been scaled up to six additional districts with financial support from the National AIDS Commission.
As part of a comprehensive social protection programme, the goal of the social cash transfer scheme is to contribute to national efforts to reduce poverty and hunger in ultra poor households, increase school enrolment and attendance and improve the health, nutrition, protection and well being of orphaned and other vulnerable children. This website provides further information on all aspects of this scheme, including progress reports and a list of in-country contacts.
