This paper was originally prepared for Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) under its arrangement with CIPE (CIPE is an affiliate of the US Chamber of Commerce, Washington, D.C., USA). Under this arrangement, DCCI prepares series of economic policy papers, which is delivered through its ERRA (Economic Reform and Research Advocacy) Project. The objective of this paper is to bring into the attention of the policy makers the SME policies and practices of countries in South Asia, so that Bangladesh’s SME development initiative can take cue from them.
