Application of Electronic Banking in Bangladesh:An Overview

"E-banking" refers to systems that enable bank customers to access accounts and general information on bank products and services through a personal computer (PC) or other intelligent device.Its products and services can include wholesale products for corporate customers as well as retail and fiduciary products for consumers. The main focus of this study is to examine the performance,problems and prospects of E-banking in Bangladesh. The study is descriptive in nature. It reveals that E-banking depends mostly on IT.At present, it is a subject of widespread interest in Bangladesh. The government has declared IT as a thrust sector.The study recommends that a comprehensive E-banking will be possible only when there will be political commitment with better IT infrastructure,internal network,country domain and,above all,a high speed fiber optic link to the information superhighway.
