Centre for Social Research, India (CSR)

CSR is a leading women's institution that works at the grassroots, regional and international levels to raise women's awareness of their rights, build inroads into decision-making institutions and eliminate violence against women. The organisation’s key areas of focus include gender and social justice, violence against women, HIV/AIDS awareness, trafficking in women and children. CSR concentrates its research on localised problems and the lives of the underprivileged. Other issues of concern include environment, governance, labour and trade.

The organisation has a Gender Training Institute (GTI) that is supported by several national and international organisations. Gender sensitising training is aimed at teachers, students and law enforcing agencies to help create gender sensitive environments. The GTI also conducts training on gender issues for individuals working with the development sector, NGOs, government departments and international agencies.

CSR has created an extensive network of non-profit organisations at a national and international level. CSR is also the Secretariat for the Joint Action Front for Women, an open forum for women's organisations across the country. The forum has focussed primarily on discussion and dialogue through meetings, conferences and seminars on women's rights.
