Growing recognition of the important role nutrition plays in the care and support of
people living with HIV (PLHIV) has led to substantial growth in efforts to integrate food and nutrition interventions into HIV care and treatment services by governments, donors, NGOs and community groups. Rapid expansion of this relatively new set of interventions requires harmonised approaches to effectively monitor and evaluate progress and results of nutritional care and support.
This guide provides guidance and tools to support programmes in monitoring and evaluating Nutrition Assessment, Education and Counselling (NAEC) of People Living with HIV (PLHIV). It is designed for use by programme managers, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) officers and other programme and government health system staff who are responsible for designing and implementing M&E systems.
Topics covered include:
- a conceptual framework for food and nutrition interventions to address HIV
- Nutrition Assessment, Education and Counseling (NAEC)
- uses of M&E information from NAEC of PLHIV
- steps and challenges in M&E of NAEC of PLHIV
- M&E indicators for NAEC of PLHIV
