This book provides resources to help teacher educators, administrators and policy-makers better apply ICTs to teacher education programmes. It begins with the premise that the teaching profession is evolving from an emphasis on teacher-centred, lecture-based instruction to studentcentred, interactive learning environments, and that ICTs are key in this transition. The authors state that designing and implementing successful ICT-enabled teacher education programmes is the key to fundamental, wide-ranging educational reforms.
The book is divided into seven chapters:
- the global context and framework, which looks at theories of learning and the shift from teaching to learning
- a rationale for teacher education both in and through ICTs, and a framework for implementing that
- curriculum planning and development
- essential components of ICT teacher education programmes
- case studies and lessons learned
- how to develop a strategic technology plan
- managing innovation and change
- principles and practice of using ICTs for teacher education
