Engendering Macroeconomics and Macroeconomic Policies

Surveys a body of recent work which argues that:
- macroeconomic policies are generally gender-biased in their effects
- gender inequalities at the micro and meso levels have macroeconomic implications.
After a brief overview of how economics of gender has evolved over time, the next four sections discuss the relevance of gender in the context of the different aspects of macroeconomic analysis outlined above, namely the conceptual, modeling, empirical and policy formulation levels. The last section provides a brief summary of the efforts made at the UNDP in the area of gender and macroeconomics. [author]
