We are looking to fill the position of Registered Nurse, Bunj Clinic, South Sudan.

Samaritan’s Purse (SP) works with support of the South Sudan Ministry of Health (SSMOH) to provide secondary/surgical health services. The hospital manages five core areas of care: surgical, diagnostic, Maternal Child Health (MCH), nutrition, and Tuberculosis. SP is also involved in carrying out ongoing training for nursing aides and midwives at the hospital. The workload is intensive and requires a team of dedicated health professionals to meet the ever increasing demand for specialized medical care at the hospital. The primary function of the Nurse will be to manage patient load by providing triage services at the hospital entry point. The Nurse will further increase hospital capacity by supervising and training subordinate nursing staff.

SP has been working in Maban, Upper Nile since November 2011 conducting emergency response programing for refugees fleeing from Sudan. UNHCR estimates close to 120,000 registered refugees across four camps in Maban. SP currently supports the secondary health needs of the entire population by supporting Bunj Hospital, serving as the only surgical and secondary referral center in the area. Hospital services provided include surgical care, diagnostics, nutrition stabilization, MCH/RI, inpatient care, and health education and training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform triage services for incoming patients. • Train and supervise subordinate nursing staff. • Assist in the development and implementation of infection control policies. • Oversee registration and data clerks to create and maintain records on client health and progress. • Coordinate with registration clerks, data clerks, and monitoring and evaluation officer to document hospital activities. • Assist doctors with clinical tasks. • May be called upon in emergencies to assist surgeons during surgical operations. • May be called upon in emergencies to perform minor surgical procedures as delegated by surgeons. • Remain available for calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week. • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donors and volunteers. • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public. • Assess, manage and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ. • Registered Nurse required; Bachelors of Science, Nursing preferred. • One year of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred. • Minimum two years nursing experience. • Strong organizational and supervisory skills. • Proven communication skills to work with national staff, partner NGOs, the local community. • Willing to build local national staff capacity by utilizing training and coaching skills. • Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people. • Ability to work in difficult conditions and under pressure. • Proven ability to work creatively and independently in the field. • Analytical and problem solving skills. • Working knowledge and adherence to MoH or WHO guidelines for health care management in South Sudan. • Awareness of gender issues. • Ability to work in climatic extremes and in areas of conflict. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as medical reports and procedure manuals. • Arabic language skills strongly preferred but not required.

12 month contract with the potential for renewal.

This is an unaccompanied assignment.
