Options in association with the Department for International Development (DFID) carried out an Urban Health Project in Cambodia. The aim of the project was to explore alternative models for health care for the urban poor; the project's Health Room model and its other activities have been documented and closely monitored and evaluated. The Health Room model has been identified as potentially replicable across Phnom Penh and other urban centres in Cambodia. The pilot project ended in December 2001.
The seven briefing papers cover the following topics
- The Urban Health Project, Cambodia: an overview
- Illness and health care, as experienced by Phnom Penh’s urban poor
- Improving access to health care for the poorest of the urban poor: from theory to practice
- Private medical practitioners and public health interests in Phnom Penh
- Identifying needs and raising standards in the Cambodian public health sector
- Equity for Phnom Penh’s poor populations: saving lives, preventing debt
- Community action to improve health care in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
