A practical guide to good practice: managing environmental and social issues in the accommodations sector
What should hoteliers be doing to address key social and environmental business issues?
This handbook for accommodation providers is organised by issues. It provides an overview of ten environmental and social issues that the authors consider critical to the long-term success of the accommodations sector. For each issue, they offer a brief summary, the rationale for good practices and examples of what hotels around the world are doing. Sources for further information are provided within each section and at the end of the handbook.
The ten issues covered are:
- energy management
- water use management
- wastewater management
- waste management
- chemical use
- purchasing
- contribution to biodiversity and nature conservation
- contribution to community development
- social issues in the workplace
- environmental management systems
