Fighting poverty: Norway's action plan 2015 for combating poverty in the South
Norway's Action Plan toward achieving the Millenium Development Goals
This Action Plan sets out Norway's tasks and priorities for halving World Poverty in 2015. This strategic approach would be based on assigning priorities and implementing essential measures using partner countries own poverty strategies. The key elements of this plan cover some fundamental framework conditions for trade, investment and debt. It describes how the country will use its economic aid for development cooperation with individual countries. It also outlines their plans for co-operation with international organizations, the private sector and with civil society to combat poverty. Finally, it sheds light on what the Government will do to ensure coordination
The document sets out the terms and objectives by which Norway will set out to halve world poverty by 2015. Key elements within this plan include:
- Development assistance must be increased substantially through improving Debt Relief arrangements
- a call for the international community to listen more carefully to the voice of the developing countries.
- the importance of peace and security if development and poverty eradication are to be achieved
- emphasis on strengthening partner responsibility must be improving governance and combatting corruption.
- promoting human rights
- promoting education and health, combatting HIV/AIDS and ensuring that environmental policy is in the interests of the poor.
- increased co-operation with and co-ordination by partner countries
- ensuring that results to be achieved are measurable
