Climate Change 2001. Working Group II: impacts, adaptation and vulnerability - tourism and recreation
What will the economic impacts of global warming be for the tourism industry?
This document considers the possible impacts of climate change on the tourism industry. It points out that the major likely impact will be changes in length of season, which could be both beneficial and problematic depending on the nature of the destination.
Increased drought is also likely to cause problems and loss of resources such as beaches through sea level rise will negatively affect the industry. Overall the document states that likely impacts are as yet unknown but are likely to affect winter tourism and small islands most seriously
