United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

UNDP plays a coordinating role for operational development activities undertaken by the UN system. It is "the world's largest source of grant funding for development cooperation". Includes administering special purpose funds such as the UN Sudano-Sahelian Office (UNSO), UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). Information services include:

(a) WWW service. Located at UNDP, but provides information on all UN bodies. Includes descriptions of objectives, membership, addresses of administrative offices (including country offices), information on UNDP Country Programmes, UN databases, some statistical data. Includes full text of documents from General Assembly, Economic and Social Council and Security Council.

(b) Index to UNDP project reports on CDROM: Agencies reporting include ILO, World Bank, UNESCO, WHO and FAO. Disc plus microfiche of reports distributed by Readex.

(c) Programme and Project Management Systems (PPMS): System contains financial and other general information about UNDP-financial development projects. Data goes back to 1972 and earlier for approximately 6000 projects which were ongoing in 1972. Budget and expenditure information is available at the individual project level as well as at the aggregate level. Projects are indexed using descriptions or keywords; data on availability of project reports is maintained. There is no textual information. Available in print as UNDP compendium of on-going projects
