Comparative Research Programme on Poverty (CROP)
CROP was established by the International Social Science Council in 1992. It is a world-wide network of researchers and experts on poverty. The aim of the Programme is to establish a common arena for interdisciplinary and comparative research on poverty in developed and developing countries. CROP organises regional workshops, symposia and international conferences, promotes joint research projects and publications, linking poverty researchers and disseminating information about poverty research. Publishers of Poverty: A Global Review. Handbook on International Poverty Research, a report on poverty and poverty research in different regions of the world, and a broad range of other academic publications in international poverty research, including 6 books (by mid-2005) published by Zed Books, London (CROP International Studies in Poverty Research series). The International Glossary on Poverty (publ. 1999) provides an authoritative guide to technical terms used in contemporary scholarly research on poverty.
An updated version of the Glossary will be published in English and Spanish 2006-2007. Quarterly newsletter contains information about poverty research, CROP workshops etc.
CROP is also maintaining an international database on poverty researchers and documentation of ongoing research (not online). The CROP Secretariat is located at the University of Bergen, Norway.
