Promise and progress: Achieving goals for children 1990-2000

Six years after the World Summit for Children brought together leaders, including 71 Heads of Government or State, from nearly 160 countries in New York to pledge to ensure the survival and to promote the development of children, United Nations Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali is able to report significant progress in many regions in child health, nutrition, basic education and water.
