IITO process in the development of criteria and indicators for the measurement of sustainable tropical forest management

Since ITTO pioneered the process of developing guidelines, criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management - that exercise has become a stimulus to mobilise the world community to take a holistic view of forests, especially in terms of its multifaceted and cross-sectoral impact. This has altogether been a revealing and illuminating experience for ITTO in coming to grips with the challenges of sustainable tropical forest management.
