View full report

Question of the realization in all countries of the economic, social and cultural rights contained in the universal declaration of human rights and in the international covenant on economic, social and cultural rights, and study of special problems which the developing countries face in their efforts to achieve these human rights.

A mandate was given to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights by the World Food Summit in 1996, to better define and seek ways to better implement the rights related to food, a mandate which is already actively worked on, in collaboration with other UN bodies, Specialized Agencies, including FAO, and non-governmental organizations. To date two expert consultations on the right to adequate food as a human right have been held. This progress report summarises the findings of the second consultation.
