The Prosperity Initiative (PI)

Eradicating poverty through market forces
The Prosperity Initiative's goal is to unlock the potential of select industries, creating durable economic choice and a route out of poverty for millions of people.

Key strategies:
  • selection and development of industries with proven potential for large-scale poverty impact
  • building of strategic relationships which align interests, competencies and resources of private sector and development actors to achieve synergy and scale
  • engagement with farmers, local businesses, investors and international firms to catalyse new business practices, support sector development, and release hidden value
  • contribution to the development of a diverse fabric of capable government agencies and networks of businesses, including producers, traders, associations and service providers, to ensure the emergence and evolution of target industries
  • shaping innovative supply chain structures to grow the competitive cross-border industries required for sector wide benefits to the poor.
The initiative works by:
  • fulfilling an intelligent broker role
  • applying a strategic perspective
  • strengthening the fabric of market organisations and skills
  • using evidence-based practice and results.
