The Impact Tool box: a tool box for impact monitoring and evaluation of savings and credit programme
The NGO-IDEAS impact tool box was developed to support NGOs working in the area of savings and credit, in the context of South India. The approach is based on some principles that can applied in other contexts. The tool box gives an account of both the process of conceptualisation and operationalisation and aims to enable NGOs and grass roots organisations to enhance both the positive impacts and reduce the negative impacts of their projects. The tools included are both simple and participatory.
Key features of the NGO-IDEAS impact Tool box include the following:
- a combination of small number of tools that are attuned to one another
- tools that many NGOs are well familiar with and in use. This enables grass root organisations to use these independently without any much need for external consultation
- indicators may be represented quantitatively: while this facilitates the aggregation of data, survey data results can also be easily disaggregated if required
- encourages reflection and demands the steering of decisions based on the establishment of impacts
The tool box is divided into two sections: section 1 covers concepts and tools on participatory wealth ranking (PWR), situational assessment and good establishment (SAGE), participant analysis of group (PAG) and performance analysis of Non-Governmental Organisation (PANgo); section 2 looks at the user tools in all of these areas.
