Centre for Social Protection (CSP)

The Centre for Social Protection (CSP) at the Institute of Development Studies, Brighton, UK, supports a network of partners working to mainstream social protection in development policy and encourage social protection systems and instruments that are comprehensive, long-term, sustainable and pro-poor.

It produces research on:
  • Conceptual approaches
  • Design Issues, including delivery, targeting and affordability
  • Impacts of different social protection initiatives
On these pages you will be able to access publications, resources, project information and training materials by some of the leading thinkers and practitioners on social protection from around the world, focusing on a number of thematic areas including:

  • Food Security and Agriculture
  • Climate Change Adaptation
  • Migration
  • Health

The CSP is also the home of the Crisis Watch Initiative and the co-convenors of the Social Protection in Asia (SPA) programme.

The CSP produces a quarterly e-newsletter which focuses on social protection research and provides useful resources including relevant publications, events, vacancies and contacts.
