Creating a conducive learning environment for girls in schools: a trainers’ manual for preventing sexualised violence against girls in schools

View full report

Widespread violations are being committed against female students in Ugandan schools (including rape, defilement and sexual harassment); yet these cases often go unreported. This is a step-by-step teacher training manual for preventing and managing sexualised violence against girls in schools. The goal of this training is to equip teachers with information and skills to support children and other stakeholders in the protection of female students from sexual gender-based violence. It is meant to build the capacity of teachers to identify, counsel and report cases while respecting childrens’ rights. This publication was produced following a 2009 Action for Development study showing that sexual violence against women is a widespread problem in Uganda, with rising incidence rates. Action for Development then designed this training to increase anti-sexual violence norms, values and life skills. The production of this guide was supported by the Independent Development Fund (IDF).
