While always respected because of the reputation of its career diplomats and its commitment to multilateralism and peaceful conflict resolution, its new global clout has turned it into a major pillar of the emerging international system. Bolstered by economic growth, Brazil has become a prime mover among the emerging powers in calling for new responsibilities and new international rules.
