Hypertension in the Children: A Review
Hypertension in the Children is increasingly being recognized as an emerging critical healthcare problem, because of its increasing prevalence in recent years and also of its significant impact on the health and well-being of children and adolescents and tracking into adult life.1 Pediatric hypertension has unique features that differentiate it from hypertension in adults. It is widely accepted that childhood hypertension provides an increased risk for future cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Hypertension is a known risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD) in adults, and the presence of childhood hypertension may contribute to the early development of CAD. Reports show that early development of atherosclerosis does exist in children and young adults and may be associated with childhood hypertension.
