Civil society @ crossroads: shifts, challenges, options?

The Civil Society @ Crossroads initiative was launched in July 2011 with CDRA (South Africa), EASUN (Tanzania), ICD (Uruguay), INTRAC (United Kingdom), PSO (Netherlands), and PRIA (India) to deepen our collective understanding of the changing nature of civil society, and its implications for capacity, around the world. This document attempts to provide a summary of narratives and their explanations under this initiative. It is an attempt to identify the choices at crossroads that citizens and their associations are experiencing at this juncture; it presents challenges of travelling on any of those roads from this juncture; and, it poses certain implications for practitioners and policy-makers alike in their effort to support and strengthen civil society.
