Triggers of citizen eruptions

View full report

The year 2011 witnessed a boom in eruptions by the citizens in India against issues such as corruption and nuclear power. So why have these age-old issues suddenly attracted citizens' attention? Do they represent the enduring angst/discontent of the common masses against the perennial abuse of power? Or are they fuelled through media through constant showcasing of related incident, thereby capturing mass-imagination and generating awareness? This paper is a synthesis document compiled on the basis of the discussions happening in the Forum 'Triggers of Citizen Eruptions' under the 'Practice in Participation' Knowledge Portal of PRIA.
