Beyond NGO engagement: community mobilisation and participation for sustained development

This paper sets out to trace the genesis of community participation and engagement in development programmes, interaction between development organisations and the community, and the subsequent sustained participation of these communities beyond a programmatic intervention. By looking at particular frameworks and case studies, this paper highlights strategies for community mobilisation that are truly participatory and empower communities to create sustainable development.
