Global initiatives of assessing governance
International initiatives aimed at assessing governance have been launched by a number of organisations: multilateral and bilateral donors, as well as independent research institutes. Over the last decade, an ever growing number of tools and methodologies for governance assessments of various types have been developed by researchers, the private sector, NGOs and aid agencies. Bilateral and multilateral donors have become heavily involved in the provision and use of governance assessments and indicators.
- Countries at the Crossroads

‘Countries at the Crossroads’ is an annual survey of democratic governance in 30 strategically important countries worldwide. It looks at looks at four core areas of democratic governance: anti-corruption and transparency; rule of law; civil liberties; and accountability and public voice.
