Millennium Development Goals
- The Goals
- The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly at its Millennium Summit in September 2000. The eight MDG targets represent a global consensus on development goals, to be pursued by both developed and developing countries. The MDGs include combating HIV and AIDS, malaria, and other diseases.
- The Monterrey Consensus
- The Monterrey (Mexico) Conference on Financing Development was a UN-sponsored summit meeting of heads of state and government in 2002 to give new emphasis to financing development. While viewing development finance in the widest sense, including domestic resource mobilisation, trade, and foreign direct investment, the Monterey Consensus called for significant increases in official development assistance (ODA) for achievement of the MDGs.
