Publisher regulations on author self-archiving
Many journals allow some form of Open Access self-archiving but often have conditions for the release such as a quarantine period, special referencing methods, and author-pays models. Publishers of multiple journals tend to run an author-pays model where self archiving can be done, at a cost, immediately after publishing (see annex 1 for further details). In reality, it is the research funding body that is expected to cover the costs on your behalf. Some publishers using author-pays models waive fees in cases of economic hardship e.g. BioMed Central. (A few of the major development related publishers have been detailed in annex).
