An action research on the development of appropriate technology for mud crab (Scylla olivacea) culture through active participation of six poor women was carried out in Mithakhali, Mongla, Bagerhat from August 2003 to July, 2004. Two sets of separate studies were conducted- one on the develop technology of mud crab culture in bamboo pen and cage systems using different stocking densities and feeding regimes and the other on the availability of mud crab seeds (45-65 mm ECW) from five different tidal rivers and Sundarban mangrove swaps.
