This article looks at the background of pre-service courses for teachers among pastoralist communities.
The article finds that:
- the nomadic pastoralists alienation from effective participation in education is largely due to their peculiar way of life
- the teacher supply and retention factor was strongly observed as one of the most critical problems affecting the education of the nomads
- the project’s main objective was the address the issue of the teacher factor supply and retention
- the programme successfully trained and graduated 56 teachers from the nomadic pastoralist communities
- all the trained teachers by the programme have been posted to their respective communities as nomadic teachers by states and LGAs
