This training of trainers manual was developed for use in by the Canadian Red Cross, but is suitable for other organisations to adapt for their own purposes. The manual consist of six units that can be treated as sessions which can make up a three day intense workshop, or can be individually selected to provide topic specific training.
The manual gives an overview of ageing globally and nationally, and the need for mainstreaming age-friendliness. It then looks at:
- community mobilisation, ensuring representation of the elderly in committees, etc.
- understanding needs and capacities of older people, including post disaster needs
- working with the elderly in disaster response and rehabilitation
- working with older women
- working with those with physical and mental disabilities
- monitoring and evaluation to assess age-friendliness
