Aid statistics

Information system comprising data on Official Development Assistance (ODA), other lending by the official sector and data on officially supported export credits. Maintained by the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC): see separate entry for information on DAC and other forms of their aid data. CRS is sponsored and operated jointly by the OECD and the World Bank. The CRS is the major source of information on the sectoral and geographical distribution, terms and conditions of official development assistance, and plays a key role in the establishment of statistics on the external debt of developing and other countries. It has emerged as an essential tool for monitoring the application of the DAC Guiding Principles for Associated Financing and Tied and Partially-Untied ODA. The CRS is used extensively to cross-check the information reported in the Debtor Reporting System (DRS).

Twenty one member countries of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and the EEC report on development co-operation transactions while the 22 members of the Trade Committee Group on Export Credits and Credit Guarantees (TC/ECG), including all countries which are members of the DAC, report on officially supported export credits. 1973 to present.

Data elements include: source; recipient; amount and type of financial flow; interest rate were applicable; grant element; commitment date; sector code and purpose description; local costs and technical cooperation for each commitment.

Available in a variety of formats:

(a) WWW and CDRom: data since 1976 is available as part of the International Development Statistics on CDRom and onlineAccessible in full (with downloading) with an account password (paid): usage without an account is free, but only 75 series at a time can be viewed, with no downloading. WWW site has information on the data, list of subject codings (including a conversion table programme covering the changes made in January 1996).

(c) Project records (no statistical analysis) available on DAI / INDIX databases for 1991 and 1992 (see separate entry).
