What are the inadequacies of the legal frameworks addressing the problem of cross- border trafficking? This extensive paper looks at international legal frameworks, and regional conventions. It highlights inadequacies of the legal frameworks in Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia as well as the discrepancies between the national laws and international instruments. It is based on a comprehensive review of the relevant laws in those countries and subsequent national consultations and a regional consultation with government officials and representatives of employers’ and workers’ organisations to review the relevant contexts in their respective countries.

The paper includes recommendations for each country and a variety of case studies, for example on exploitation for commercial sex workers.
