Estimating the costs of crime

Authors:
Publisher: Mainstreaming Methodology for Estimating Costs of Crime, 2009

This site aims to bring together techniques developed for estimating the costs of crime. In this particular section the authors detail the different number of studies that have been undertaken in a number of countries - these include the US, UK, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Latin America. As an indicator of the scope of the studies - regarding the latter - the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) estimated the cost of crime in Central America to be 14.2% of GDP, which included expenses for law enforcement, healthcare and social programmes, as well as lost foreign investment.
