Facilitation manual for Timor-Leste: transformative arts and human rights education guide
Post conflict reconstruction in Timor-Leste has seen civil society playing a large part in conflict resolution and peace building efforts. Psychosocial programming has proven useful in addressing the impacts of conflict providing a platform for people to tackle their trauma and facilitate conflict resolution.
Through the combination of artistic expression, conflict resolution techniques and human rights training this manual aims to facilitate peace building and human rights education for both children and adults. The bilingual text and wide scope of the manual allows for ease of use and modification for varying contexts.
The manual is split into two parts:
- suggestions for facilitation, preparation and appropriate approaches to difficult issues
- lesson plans devised for both child and adult education.
Lessons focus on creating a positive work environment through cooperation and communication; introducing human and child rights; introducing techniques for conflict resolution; overcoming the negative effects of conflict; the convergence of human rights and conflict resolution; and discussions about future peaceful interaction in Timor-Leste.
Background information and materials are provided covering: Implementation procedures; effective interactive artistic methods of working with children; group problem solving activities; and role plays.
