The programmes address the following issues in education:

  • planning for equity and quality
  • community mobilisation for quality improvement
  • learning improvement initiatives and pupil assessment
  • reading promotion initiatives
  • science education programmes
  • school health
  • tribal education programmes
  • skill-based education
  • school monitoring systems
  • alternative and innovative education
  • use of technology for quality improvement
  • resource centers for educational development

Many of the programmes outlined utilise participatory approaches, engaging teachers, students, parents, and communities in activities such as assessment of learning quality, learning support, management of community schools. Several initiatives provide community-based centres and schools that provide wide-ranging education on practical skills and incorporate training about biodiversity in the local environment, horticulture and nutrition. The various approaches address gender issues, language teaching for minority language groups, remedial teaching strategies, as well as strategies for managing effective delivery and evaluation of outcomes across state education systems.
