Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET)


USAID funded information service designed to help decision makers prevent famine in sub-saharan Africa (specifically Burkina Faso, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Somalia, Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe, Uganda, Rwanda and Mozambique). FEWS specialists in the USA and Africa assess remotely sensed data, ground based sources and other factors affecting local food availability. Data produced includes: monthly news bulletin (with weather reports, crop situation, marketing situation); special reports on regional vulnerability, food security status, pre-harvest assessments; maps; remote sensing images.

Data available via WWW: with information on the programme, and full text of publications/images (including archive of bulletins (since April 1995))
