What gender issues emerged from the Pakistan Floods of 2010? The purpose of this United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Rapid Gender Assessment Needs Report is to substantiate the findings of the preliminary report (4 September 2010). This assessment draws on surveys of households and community groups, secondary literature produced by various organisations on the impact of the floods, media briefs and reports, as well as 141 case studies from across Pakistan immediately following the flooding. Among the findings is that the humanitarian community and development sector are failing to incorporate the women affected by the floods in relief programme planning, and are unable to anticipate their needs adequately. In this report, gender concerns are mapped chronologically, and categorised as practical or strategic gender needs The following sub-headings are included:

PRACTICAL NEEDS: Protection of Rights related to Basic Necessities of Life

- Forms of shelter
- Access to distributed aid
- Food availability
- Water, sanitation and hygiene
- General health
- Reproductive health
- Livelihood
- Education

STRATEGIC NEEDS: Protection of Life, Security, Integrity and Dignity
