This aims of this study are to:

  • highlight the persistence and unacceptability of all forms of violence against women in all parts of the world
  • strengthen the political commitment and joint efforts of all stakeholders to prevent and eliminate violence against women
  • identify ways and means to ensure more sustained and effective implementation of State obligations to address all forms of violence against women, and to increase State accountability

The study includes the following:

  • a statistical overview of all forms of violence against women
  • an overview of the causes
  • an assessment of the medium-term and long -term consequences
  • an assessment of the health, social and economic costs
  • the identification of best practice examples in areas including legislation, policies, programmes and effective remedies and the efficiency of such mechanisms to the end of combating and eliminating the problem
