Advocacy expert series: gender mentoring - a guide for strengthening equality in communities

This guide aims to strengthen equality in communities by giving guidance for gender mentoring. It examines the nature of gender and gender equality, analyses power relations within society.

The guide examines what is needed for gender monitoring and distinguishes between seven steps:

• securing leadership commitment
• conducting a gender audit
• gender policy formulation
• gender analysis tools
• mainstreaming gender in an organisation
• gender sensitive indicators
• identification of obstacles and constraints.

The author also suggests that all project developers and implementers should develop a checklist for building gender equity into their project design and implementation.

The manual is part of the Advocacy Expert Series developed by Pact Tanzania, a series consisting of six manuals which can be used separately, but together, form a comprehensive resource on conducting advocacy in Tanzania.
