The Center For World Indigenous Studies is an NGO research and education organisation aiming to promote "wider understanding and appreciation of the ideas and knowledge of indigenous peoples and the social, economic and political realities of indigenous nations". Played a major role in the preparation of the International Covenant on the Rights of Indigenous Nations. Research projects include one on traditional medicine.
Information products include:
(a) Fourth World Documentation Project: Aims to make the Center's resources available to tribal governments, researchers and organisations with an interest in Indigenous Nations. The FWDP gathers documents from nations around the world and processes them into electronic text for distribution on the Internet and other computer networks. Archive contains over 500 full text documents on Fourth World nations in the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, Melanesia and the Pacific. The documents include essays, position papers, resolutions, organisational information, treaties, UN documents from the Working Group on Indigenous Nations, speeches and declarations. WWW site contains the full FWDP archives as well as links to other resources related to indigenous people
