Aid effectiveness
- Philanthropy and development: will it work?
-
New philanthropy is not only global, but has become a significant player in international development. The Gates Foundation funds global health initiatives in Senegal, China and India, the Google Foundation supports worldwide renewable energy sources and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation funds international environmental conservation. Due to a dearth of systematic data, the discussion on foundations in international development is still in its initial stages. Nonetheless, this short study seeks to bring some clarity and structure to the discussion and move the debate forward for policy makers in both foundations and donor agencies.
